President’s Message

Greetings! It is with great honor that I welcome you to the website of the Greater Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

This archive of our chapter’s history serves to exhibit the remarkable achievements and over a century of service throughout the Chicagoland area.

Theta Chapter was chartered on Feb 21, 1910, at the University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Northwestern University by 6 exceptional men. These men sought to continue Alpha Phi Alpha’s legacy of leadership, brotherhood, academic excellence, service, and advocacy for our communities. 

Today, Theta continues to build upon the foundation that was set over 113 years ago. Through our community events, service initiatives, and advocacy programs we strive to uphold the core values of Alpha Phi Alpha. Theta embodies what it means to be “Servants of All”!

    Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of Brotherhood among African descendants in this country.
